I adore You, Who is dear to devotees, Who is reachable by devotion, Who increases the fame (glory) of devotees, Who is dear to Śiva, Who is Satī (eternal truth), Who is noble Goddess, and Who endears devotees.
I adore You, Who is Annapūrṇā (Who gives grains), Who is always complete (in every way), Who is Pārvatī (daughter of Parvata Himālaya), Who is prayed on parva (Parva consists of the full moon day, the change of moon, and the eighth day and the fourteenth day of half month.), Who is the greatĪśvarī, Who is seated on a bull, and Who is the supreme Goddess.
I adore You, Who is Kālarātriḥ, Who is the great Goddess Rātriḥ,Who is the night of deluge (prayalakāla rātriḥ), Who is the Goddess of everyone, Who is the beloved of Śiva, Who is the power of Śambhu, Who is the Mother, and Who is known as Umā.
I adore You, Who creates the universe, Who nourishes (protects) the universe like a Mother, Who causes the destruction of universe (at deluge), Who is eulogized by sages (muni), Who is auspicious, and Who bestows mokṣa (liberation).
देवदु:खहरामम्बां सदा देवसहायकाम् ।
मुनिदेवै: सदा सेव्यां वन्दे त्वां देवपूजिताम् ॥६॥
I adore You, Who absolves the grief of demi-gods (or noble ones), Who is the Divine Mother, Who always helps the demi-gods (or noble ones), Who is always worthy to be honored by sages and demi-gods, and Who is worshipped by demi-gods (or noble ones).
I adore You, Who has three eyes, Who is the consort of Śiva, Who is Gaurī (or of fair-complexion), Who bestows luxuries and liberation, Who is eternally blissful, Who is the great illusory power (Māyā), Who is the seed (cause) of this universe, and Who is the Goddess of the universe.
I adore You, Who destroys all the griefs of living-beings seeking shelter (in Her), Who causes happiness and prosperity, Who is eternal, Who is Prakṛti (primordial One), and Who is Parā.
With devotion, he who reads these eight verses on Goddess —which is virtuous, and which is written by Yogānanda, he attains the final happiness and bliss.

Kaladaravathamsakam, vichithra loka rakshakam, Anayakaika nayakam vinasithebha daithyakam, Nathashubha pranasakam, namami tham vinayakam. 1
I salute that remover of obstacles, Who has modakas in his hand, Who always bestows salvation, Who wears a part of moon on his head, Who protects this world which is varied, Who is the leader of those who cannot be lead, Who is the cause of destruction of asuras, And who destroys all things which are not good.
Nathetharathi bheekaram navodhitharka bhaswaram, Namath surari nirjaram nathadhikapadhugdharam, Sureswaram Nidheeswaram Gajeswaram Ganeswaram, Maheswaram thamasraye parathparam nirantharam. 2 I bow before that great Lord permanently, Who creates fear in the enemies of his devotees, Who sparkles like the just risen sun, Who is saluted by Gods and Asuras who destroys obstacles of his devotees, Who is the God of all devas, Who is the God of all wealth, Who is the God of all elephants, And Who is the leader of the army of Lord Shiva.
I bow to that Ganapati who shines like the Sun, Who bestows peace to all the worlds, Who removed the Gajamukhasura from this world Who has a very big paunch, Who has an elephant-face which blesses, And who is the one who shows kindness Who is patient, Who is full of blessing, And who showers great fame, To those who salute Him.
I salute the very ancient elephant-god Who destroys the wants of the have nots, Who has been worshipped since ancient times, Who is the eldest son of the lord who destroyed cities, Who eats away the pride of the enemies of the gods, Who is awesome at the time of final deluge, Who wears serpents like Dananjaya as ornaments, And who is fierce like the elephant in rut.
Nithanta kanthi dantha kantha manthakantha kathmajam, Achinthya roopamantha heena mantha raya krunthanam, Hrudanthare nirantharam vasanthameva yoginaam , Tham eka dantha meka meva chinthayami santhatham. 5
I always meditate only on that God with single tusk,, Who is ever lustrous tusk is very pretty, Who is the son of Lord who killed the god of death, Who has a form beyond ones imagination, Who is endless, Who tears asunder all obstacles, And who dwells forever in the heart of Yogis , Like the season of spring.

चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर पाहिमाम् । चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ १॥ रत्नसानुशरासनं रजतादिशृङ्गनिकेतनं सिञ्जिनीकृतपन्नगेश्वरमच्युताननसायकम् । क्षिप्रदघपुरत्रयं त्रिदिवालयैभिवन्दितं चन्द्रशेखरमाश्रये मम किं करिष्यति वै यमः ॥ २॥ I seek refuge in him, who has the moon,Who made the mountain of jewels into his bow,Who resides on the mountain of silver,Who made the serpent Vasuki as rope,Who made Lord Vishnu as arrows,And quickly destroyed the three cities,And who is saluted by the three worlds,And so what can the God of Death do to me? पञ्चपादपपुष्पगन्धपदाम्बुजदूयशोभितं भाललोचनजातपावकदग्धमन्मथविग्रह।म् । भस्मदिग्धकलेवरं भवनाशनं भवमव्ययं चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ ३॥ I seek refuge in him, who has the moon, Who shines with the pair of his lotus-like feet, Which are worshipped by the scented flowers of five kalpaka trees, Who burnt the body of God of Love, Using the fire from the eyes on his forehead, Who applies ash all over his body, Who destroys the sorrow of life, And who does not have destruction, And so what can the God of Death do to me? मत्त्वारणमुख्यचर्मकृतोत्तरीमनोहरं पङ्कजासनपद्मलोचनपुजिताङ्घ्रिसरोरुहम् । देवसिन्धुतरङ्गसीकर सिक्तशुभ्रजटाधरं चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ ४॥
I seek refuge in Him, who has the moon, Who is the stealer of minds because of his upper cloth, Made of the skin of the ferocious elephant, Who has lotus-like feet which are worshipped, By Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu, And who has matted hair drenched by drops, Of the waves of the holy river Ganga, And so what can God of Death do to me?
यक्षराजसखं भगाक्षहरं भुजङ्गविभूषणं शैलराजसुता परिष्कृत चारुवामकलेवरम् । क्ष्वेडनीलगलं परश्वधधारिणं मृगधारिणं चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ ५॥ I seek refuge in him, who has the moon,Who is friend of Lord Kubera,Who destroyed the eyes of Bhaga,Who wears serpent as ornament,Whose left part of the body is decorated,By the daughter of the king of mountain,Whose neck is blue because of the poison,Who is armed with an axe,And who carries a deer with Him,And so what can God of Death do to me? कुण्डलीकृतकुण्डलेश्वरकुण्डलं वृषवाहनं नारदादिमुनीश्वरस्तुतवैभवं भुवनेश्वरम् । अन्धकान्धकामा श्रिता मरपादपं शमनान्तकं चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ ६॥ I seek refuge in Him, who has the moon,Who wears the ear studs made of a curling serpent,Who is the great one being praised by Narada and other sages,Who is the Lord of the entire earth,Who is the killer of Anthakasura.Who is the wish-giving tree to his devotees,And who is the killer of God of Death,And so what can God of Death do to me? भषजं भवरोगिणामखिलापदामपहारिणं दक्षयज्ञर्विनाशनं त्रिगुणात्मकं त्रिविलोचनम् । भुक्तिमुक्तफलप्रदं सकलाघसङ्घनिवर्हनं चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर चन्द्रशेखर रक्षमाम् ॥ ७॥
I seek refuge in Him, who has the moon, Who is the doctor who cures sorrowful life, Who destroys all sorts of dangers, Who destroyed the fire sacrifice of Daksha, Who is personification of three qualities, Who has three different eyes, Who bestows devotion and salvation, And who destroys all types of sins, And so what can God of death do to me?
I seek refuge in Him, who has the moon, Who is worshipped as darling of devotees, Who is the treasure which is perennial, Who clothes Himself with the directions, Who is the chief of all beings, Who is beyond the unreachable God, Who is not understood by any one, Who is the holiest of every one, And who is served by moon, water, sun, earth, Fire, ether, boss and the Wind And so what can god of death do to me?
I seek refuge in Him, who has the moon, Who does the creation of the universe, Who then is interested in its upkeep, Who at proper time destroys the universe, Who lives in every being of the universe, Who is plays day and night with all beings, Who is the leader of all beings, And who is like any one of them, And so what can god of death do to me?
मृत्युभीतमृकण्डसूनुकृतस्तव शिव सन्निधौ यत्र कुत्र च पठेन्नहि तस्य मृत्युभयं भवेत् । पूर्णमायुररोगितामखिलाथ सम्पदमादरंचन्द्रशेखर एव तस्य ददाति मुक्तिमयत्नतः ॥ १०॥
He who reads this prayer, Composed by the son of Mrukandu, Who was fear struck with death, In the temple of Lord Shiva, Will not have fear of death, He would have full healthy life, With all grains and all wealth, And Lord Chandra Shekara, Would give Him, Salvation in the end.

Adore Siva, Who is the Lord of the city of Varanasi, Who is the Lord of the world, Who has five faces in one of His forms, Who is like a lion for the intoxicated and proud persons, Who is like the destroyer of snake Garuda for the snake like mighty demons, and Who is like the fire for the forest like physical state of birth, grief and old age.||5|| तेजोमयं सगुणनिर्गुणमद्वितीयं आनन्दकन्दमपराजितमप्रमेयम् | नागात्मकं सकलनिष्कलमात्मरूपं वाराणसीपुरपतिं भज विश्वनाथम् ॥६॥
Adore Siva, Who is the Lord of the city of Varanasi, Who is the Lord of the world, Who is filled with resplendence, Who is both formed and formless, Who is unprecedented, Who is the cloud of happiness, Who is undefeated and immeasurable, Who is surrounded by snakes, Who is indivisible (Brahma), and Who is matched only by Himself.||6||

Leaving behind hopes, destroying the fretful complains about others and the indulgence in sins, restraining the mind in meditation, bringing Paresh (Siva) to the middle of lotus-like mind, adore Him, Who is the Lord of the city of Varanasi, and Who is the Lord of the world.||8|| वाराणसीपुरपतेः स्तवनं शिवस्य व्याख्यातमष्टकमिदं पठते मनुष्यः | विद्यां श्रियं विपुलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्तिं सम्प्राप्य देहविलये लभते च मोक्षम् ॥ ९॥
The man who studies this popular eight-canto eulogy on Siva, the ruler of Varanasi, attain Moksha at the time of death, after obtaining knowledge, wealth, friends, and immeasurable glory.||9|| विश्वनाथाष्टकमिदं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ | शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥
Those who study this eight-canto eulogy on Visvanatha in the proximity of Siva (in Varanasi), achieve the world of Siva and then they rejoice with Him.
Translation Deva raja sevya mana pavangri pankajam, Vyala yagna suthra mindu shekaram krupakaram, Naradadhi yogi vrundha vandhitham digambaram, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 1 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Whose lotus like feet is being served by Devendra, Who is merciful and wears the moon on his forehead , Who wears a snake as his sacred thread, Who wears the different directions as his cloth, And who is worshipped by sages like Narada. Bhanu koti bhaswaram, bhavabdhi tharakam param, Neelakanda meepsidartha dayakam trilochanam, Kalakala mambujaksha maksha soola maksharam, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 2 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who shines like billions of suns, Who helps us cross this miserable ocean of life, Who is supreme and has a blue neck, Who has three eyes and grants us our desires, Who is the death to the God of death*, Who has lotus flower like eyes, Who has the undefeatable trident, And who does not have decay. * could also be translated as death to the time. Soola tanga pasa danda pani madhi karanam, Syama kaya madhi devamaksharam niramayam, Bheema vikramam prabhum vichithra thandava priyam, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 3 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who has a spear, a chord and a stick as weapons, Who is black in colour and the primeval cause, Who is deathless and the first God, Who is free from decay and ill health, Who is the Lord who is a great hero, And who likes the special vigorous thandava* *dance with male’s vigorous movements. . Bhukthi mukthi dayakam prasashtha charu vigraham, Bhaktha vatsalam shivam* , samastha loka vigraham, Vinikwanan manogna hema kinkini lasath kateem, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 4 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who fulfills desires and also grants salvation, Who is well known for his pretty mien, Who is a form of Shiva ,who loves his devotees, Who is the God of the entire world, Who assumes various forms, And who has a golden waist thread, On which jingling bells are tied. * Another version mentions as Stitham –the one who is static. Dharma sethu palakam, thwa dharma marga nasakam, Karma pasa mochakam , susharma dayakam vibhum, Swarna varna sesha pasa shobithanga mandalam, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 5 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who maintains the bridge of dharma in life, Who destroys paths which are not right, Who saves us from the ties of Karma, Who is the lord who makes us ashamed , When trying to do wrong things, Who has a shining body because of golden rope , With bells tied in various places. Rathna padukha prabhabhirama padayugmakam, Nithyamadwidheeyamishta daivatham niranjanam, Mrutyu darpa nasanam karaladamshtra mokshanam, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 6 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who has feet adorned by the shine of gem studded sandals, Who is eternal and does not have any one second to him, Who is our favorite God who bestows everything, Who takes away the fear of death from humans, And who grants them salvation by his terrible teeth. Attahasa binna padma janda kosa santhatheem, Drushti pada nashta papa jala mugra sasanam, Ashtasidhi dayakam kapala malikadaram, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 7 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Whose loud roar is enough to destroy all those created by Brahma, Whose sight is sufficient to destroy all sins, Who is crafty and strict ruler, Who can grant the eight occult powers, And who wears the garland of skulls. Bhootha sanga nayakam, vishala keerthi dayakam, Kasi vasa loka punya papa shodhakam vibum, Neethi marga kovidham purathanam jagatpathim, Kasika puradhi nadha Kalabhairavam bhaje. 8 I salute Kalabhairava, the lord of the city of Kasi, Who is the chief of the society of Bhoothas, Who grants broad based fame, Who is the lord who judges good and bad deeds, Of those who live in Varanasi, Who is an expert in the way of righteousness, And who is eternally old and lord of the universe. Kalabhairavashtakam patanthi yea manoharam, Jnana mukthi sadhanam , vichithra punya vardhanam, Soka moha dainya lopa kopa thapa nasanam, Thea prayanthi Kalabhairavangri saniidhim druvam. 9 Those who read this enticing octet on Kalabhairava, Which is the source of eternal knowledge, Which increases the effect of righteous deeds, And which destroys grief, passion, poverty, want and anger, Would surely reach the holy presence of Kalabhairava.
बाल समय रबि भक्षि लियो तब तीनहुँ लोक भयो अँधियारो। ताहि सों त्रास भयो जग को यह संकट काहु सों जात न टारो। देवन आनि करी बिनती तब छाँड़ि दियो रबि कष्ट निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥१॥ बालि की त्रास कपीस बसै गिरि जात महाप्रभु पंथ निहारो। चौंकि महा मुनि साप दियो तब चाहिय कौन बिचार बिचारो। कै द्विज रूप लिवाय महाप्रभु सो तुम दास के सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥२॥ अंगद के सँग लेन गये सिय खोज कपीस यह बैन उचारो। जीवत ना बचिहौ हम सो जु बिना सुधि लाए इहाँ पगु धारो। हेरि थके तट सिंधु सबै तब लाय सिया-सुधि प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥३॥ रावन त्रास दई सिय को सब राक्षसि सों कहि सोक निवारो। ताहि समय हनुमान महाप्रभु जाय महा रजनीचर मारो। चाहत सीय असोक सों आगि सु दै प्रभु मुद्रिका सोक निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥४॥ बान लग्यो उर लछिमन के तब प्रान तजे सुत रावन मारो। लै गृह बैद्य सुषेन समेत तबै गिरि द्रोन सु बीर उपारो। आनि सजीवन हाथ दई तब लछिमन के तुम प्रान उबारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥५॥ रावन जुद्ध अजान कियो तब नाग कि फाँस सबै सिर डारो। श्रीरघुनाथ समेत सबै दल मोह भयो यह संकट भारो। आनि खगेस तबै हनुमान जु बंधन काटि सुत्रास निवारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥६॥ बंधु समेत जबै अहिरावन लै रघुनाथ पताल सिधारो। देबिहिं पूजि भली बिधि सों बलि देउ सबै मिलि मंत्र बिचारो। जाय सहाय भयो तब ही अहिरावन सैन्य समेत सँहारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥७॥ काज कियो बड़ देवन के तुम बीर महाप्रभु देखि बिचारो। कौन सो संकट मोर गरीब को जो तुमसों नहिं जात है टारो। बेगि हरो हनुमान महाप्रभु जो कुछ संकट होय हमारो। को नहिं जानत है जग में कपि संकटमोचन नाम तिहारो॥८॥
