Subramanya Ashtakam


हे स्वामिनाथ करुणाकर दीनबन्धो श्रीपार्वतीशमुखपङ्कज पद्मबन्धो ।
श्रीशादिदेवगणपूजितपादपद्म वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥१॥
O Merciful one! Friend of the down trodden! The Sun of (who blossoms) the Lotus face of the Lord of Pārvatī, He whose lotus feet are worshipped by Śrīśa (Lord Viṣṇu), O Lord dearest to Vallī! O Svāminātha! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
देवाधिदेवसुत देवगणाधिनाथ देवेन्द्रवन्द्य मृदुपङ्कजमञ्जुपाद ।
देवर्षिनारदसुगीतकीर्ते वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥२॥
O son of the Lord of Lords – Maheśvara, Lord of the Deva Gaṇas (Demigods), He whose tender lotus feet are propitiated by Indra (the celestial ruler), He whose praises are sung by Devarṣi Nārada, O Lord dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
नित्यान्नदाननिरताखिलरोगहारिन् भाग्यप्रदानपरिपूरितभक्तकाम ।
श्रुत्यागमप्रणववाच्यनिजस्वरूप वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥३॥
O Destroyer the diseases of those who daily perform charity of food! Bestower of all wealth! Essence of the Vedas, Āgamas and the Praṇava, O Lord dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
क्रौञ्चासुरेन्द्रपरिखण्डनशक्तिशूलचापादिशस्त्रपरिमण्डितदिव्यपाणे ।
श्रीकुण्डलीशधृततुण्डशिखीन्द्रवाह वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥४॥
O weilder of the cosmic lance (Vel), spear (śūlam), bow and arrow(s) which wrought destruction unto Krauñcāsura and his associates! The peacock which holds Vāsuki(the celestial serpent) on its beak, which is your vehicle, O Lord dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
देवादिदेवरथमण्डलमध्यमेत्य देवेन्द्रपीठनगरं दृढचापहस्त ।
शूरं निहत्य सुरकोटिभिरीड्यमान वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥५॥
O Lord of Lords! The great warrior who repaired to the city of Devendra on a (divine) chariot, He whom the gods extolled when He destroyed (the illusory mount Krauñca) by casting His cosmic lance, O Lord dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
हीरादिरत्नवलयुक्तकिरीटहार केयूरकुण्डललसत्कवचाभिराम ।
हे वीर तारकजयामरबृन्दवन्द्य वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥६॥
He whose charming brilliance is magnified by a crown bedecked with diamonds and other precious gems, keyura, earrings and armour. O warrior Lord, victor of Tārkāsura! O Lord! who is extolled by the gods and dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
पञ्चाक्षरादिमनुमन्त्रितगाङ्गतोयैः पञ्चामृतैः प्रमुदितेन्द्रमुखैर्मुनीन्द्रैः ।
पट्टाभिषिक्त हरियुक्त परासनाथ वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥७॥
He who is propitiated through abhiṣekam of holy waters of the Gaṅgā sacntified by the great Pañcākṣara and other mantras and Pañcāmṛtam by Indra and other celestials! O Lord with peacock (as your vehicle), O Destroyer of the six enemies like Kāma (lust) and others! (ariṣaḍvargaṁ), O Lord dearest to Vallī! Thoust may lend thy holy hand unto me!
श्रीकार्तिकेय करुणामृतपूर्णदृष्ट्या कामादिरोगकलुषीकृतदुष्टचित्तम् ।
सिक्त्वा तु मामव कलाधरकान्तिकान्त्या वल्लीश नाथ मम देहि करावलम्बम् ॥८॥
O Kartikeya! O Dearest to Valli! Protect (me of) the wicked mind(ed) corrupted by Kāma and other maladies through (Your) merciful nectarine Grace like the cool radiant moonlight, O Lord! Thoust protect me by lending thy holy hand unto me!
सुब्रह्मण्याष्टकं पुण्यं ये पठन्ति द्विजोत्तमाः
ते सर्वमुक्तिमायान्ति सुब्रह्मण्यप्रसादतः ॥९॥
The best of the twice born who recite this virtous hymn called ‘Subrahmaṇyāṣṭakaṁ’, beget all wealth and salvation by the grace of Lord Subrahmaṇya.
सुब्रह्मण्याष्टकमिदं पुण्यं प्रातरुत्थाय यः पठेत् ।
कोटिजन्मकृतं पापं तत्क्षणात्तस्य नश्यति ॥१०॥
He who recites this virtous hymn called ‘Subrahmaṇyāṣṭakaṁ’, getting up early in the morning, the sins accrued over a crore births, are destroyed instantaneously.
