श्रीमद्देवी भागवतमहापुराणम्

अथ प्रथमा‍‌ऽध्याय:
सृष्टौ या सर्गरूपा जगदवनविधौ पालनी या च रौद्री संहारे चापि यस्या जगदिदमखिलं क्रिडनं या पराख्या । पश्यन्ती मध्यमाथो तदनु भगवत वैखरी वर्णरूपा सास्मद्वाचं प्रसन्ना विधिहरिगिरिशाराधितालङ्करोतु ॥१॥
नारायणं नमस्कृत्य नरं चैव नरोत्तमम् । देवीं ससस्वतीं व्यास ततो जयमुदीरयेत् ॥२॥
ऋषय ऊचु:
सूत जीवसमा बह्वीर्यस्त्वं श्रावयसीह न: । कथा मनोहरा: पुण्या व्यासशिष्य महामते ॥३॥
सर्वपापहरं पुण्यं विष्णोश्चरितमद्भतम् । अवतारकथोपेतमस्माभिर्भक्तित: श्रुतम् ॥४॥
शिवस्य चरितं दिव्यं भस्मरुद्राक्षयोस्तथा । सेतिहासञ्य माहात्म्यं श्रुतं तव मुखाम्बुजात् ॥५॥
अधुना श्रोतुमिच्छाम: पावनात् पावनं परम् । नॄणामनायासे सर्वाश: ॥६॥
तत् त्वं ब्रूहि महाभाग येन सिध्यन्ति मानवा: । कलावि परं त्वत्तो न विद्म: संशयच्छिदम् ॥७॥
सूत उवाच
साधु पृष्टं महाभागा लोकानां हितकाम्यया । सर्वाशास्त्रस्य यत् सारं तद्वो वक्ष्याम्यशेषत: ॥८॥
तावद् गर्जन्ति तीर्थानि पुराणानि व्रतानि च । यावन्न श्रुयते सम्यग् देवीभागवतं नरै: ॥९॥
तावत् पापाटवी नॄणां क्लेशदादभ्रकण्टका । यावन्न परशु: पाप्तो देवीभागवताभिध: ॥१०॥
तावत् क्लेशावहं नॄणामुपसर्गमहातम: । यावन्नैवोदयं प्राप्तो देवीभागवतोष्णगु: ॥११॥
ऋषय ऊचु:
सूत सूत माहभा वद नो वदतां वर । कीदृशं तत्पुराणं हि विधिस्तच्छ्रवणे च क: ॥१२॥
कतिभिर्वासरैरेतच्छ्रोतव्यं किञ्च पूजनम् । कैर्मानवै: श्रुतं पुर्वं कान्कान्कामानवाप्नुयु: ॥१३॥
सूत उवाच
विष्णोरंशो मुनिर्जात: सत्यवत्यां पराशरात् । विभज्य वेदांश्चतुर: शिष्यानध्यापयत्युरा ॥१४॥
व्रात्यानां द्विजबन्धूनां वेदेष्वनधीकारिणाम् । स्त्रीणां दुर्मेधसा नॄणां धर्मज्ञानं कथं भवेत् ॥१५॥
विचार्यैतत् तु मनसा भगवान् बादरायण: । पुराणसंहितां दध्यौ तेषां धर्मविधित्सया ॥१६॥
अष्टादश पुराणानि स कृत्वा भगवान। मुनि: । मामेवाध्यापयामास भारतख्यानमेव च ॥१७॥
देवीभागवतं तत्र पुराणं भोगमोक्षदम् । स्वयं तु श्रावयामास जनमेजयभूपतिम् ॥१८॥
पूर्वमस्य पिता राजा परीक्षित् तक्षकाहिना । सन्दष्टस्तस्त संशुध्यै राज्ञा भागवतं श्रुतम् ॥१९॥
नवभिर्दिवसै: श्रीमद्वेदव्यासमुखाम्बुजात् । त्रैलोक्यमातरं देवीं पूजयित्वा विधानत: ॥२०॥
नवाहयज्ञे सम्पूर्णे परीक्षिदपि भूपति: । दिव्यरूपधरो देव्या: सालोक्यं तत्क्षणादगात् ॥२१॥
पितुर्दिव्यां गतिं राजा विलोक्य जनमेजय: । व्यासं मुनिं समभ्यर्च्य परां मुदमवाप ह ॥२२॥
अष्टादशपुराणानां मध्ये सर्वोत्तमं परम् । देवीभागवतं नाम धर्मकामार्थमोक्षदम् ॥२३॥
ये श्रृण्वन्ति सदा भक्त्या देव्या भागवतीं कथाम् । तेषां सिद्धिर्न दूरस्था तस्मात् सेव्या सदा नृभी: ॥२४॥
दिनमर्ध तदर्ध वा मुहुर्तं क्षणमेव वा । ये श्रृण्वन्ति नरा भक्त्या न तेषां दुर्गति: क्वचित् ॥२५॥
सर्वयज्ञेषु तीर्थेषु सर्वदानेषु यत् फलम् । सकृत् पुराणश्रवणात् तत् फलं लभते नर: ॥२६॥
कृतादौ बहवो धर्मा: कलौ धर्मस्तु केवलम् । पुराणश्रवणादन्यो विद्यते नापरो नृणाम् ॥२७॥
धर्माचारविहीनानां कलावल्पायुषां नृणाम् । व्यासो हिताय विदधे पुराणाख्यं सुधारसम् ॥२८॥
सुधां पिबुन्नेक एव नर: स्यादजरामर: । देव्या: कथामृतं कुर्यात् कुलमेवाजरामरमारम् ॥२९॥
मासानां नियमो नात्र दिनानां नियमोऽपि न । सदा सेव्यं सदा सेव्यं देवीभागवतं नरै: ॥३०॥
आश्विने मधुमासे वा तपोमासे शुचौ तथा । चतुर्षु नवरात्रेषु विशेषात् फलदायकम् ॥३१॥
अतो नवाहयज्ञोऽयं सर्वस्मात् पुण्यकर्मण: । फलाधिकप्रदानेन प्रोक्त: पुण्यप्रदो नृणाम् ॥३२॥
ये दुर्हृद: पापरता विमूढा मित्रद्रुहो वेदविनिन्दकाश्च । हिंसारता  नास्तिकमार्गसक्ता नवाहयज्ञने  पुनन्ति ते कलौ ॥३३॥
परास्वदाराहरणेऽतिलुब्धा ये वै नरा: कल्मषभारभाज: । गोदेवताब्राह्मणभक्तिहीना नवाहयज्ञेन भवन्ति शुद्धा ॥३४॥
तपोभिरुग्रैर्वततीर्थसेवनैर्दानैरनेकैर्नियमैर्मखैश्च । हुतैर्जपैर्यच्च फलं न लभ्यते नवाहयज्ञेन तदाप्यते नृणाम् ॥३५॥
तथा न गङ्गा न गया न काशी न नैमिषं नो मथुरा न पुष्करम् । पुनाति सद्यो बदरीवनं नो यथा हि देवीमख  एष विप्रा: ॥३६॥
अतो भागवतं देव्या: पुराणं परत: परम् । धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणामुत्तमं साधनं मतम् ॥३७॥
आश्विनस्य सिते पक्षे कन्याराशिगते रवौ । महाष्टम्यां समभ्यर्च्य हैमसिंहासनस्थितम् ॥३८॥
देवीप्रीतिप्रदं भक्त्य श्रीभागवतपुस्तकम् । दद्याद् विप्राय योग्योय स देव्या: पदवीं लभेत् ॥३९॥
देवीभागवतस्यापि श्लोकं श्लोमार्धमेव वा । भक्त्य यश्च पठेन्नित्यं स देव्या: प्रीतिभाग्भवेत् ॥४०॥
उपसर्गभयं घोरं महामारीसमुद्भवम् । उत्पातानखिलांश्चापि हन्ति श्रुवणमात्रत: ॥४१॥
बालग्रहकृतं यच्च भूतप्रेतकृतं भयम् । देवीभागवतस्यास्य श्रवणाद् याति दूरत: ॥४२॥
यस्तु भागवतं देव्या पठेद् भक्त्या श्रृणोति वा । धर्ममर्थं च कामं च मोक्षं च लभते नर: ॥४३॥
श्रवणाद्वसुदेवोऽस्य प्रसेनान्वेषणे गतम् । चिरायितं प्रियं पुत्रं कृष्णं लब्ध्वा मुमोद ह॥४४॥
य एतां श्रृणुयाद् भक्त्या श्रीमद्भगवतीं कथाम् । भुक्तिं मुक्तिं स लभते भक्त्या यश्च पठेदिमाम् ॥४५॥
अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रं दरिद्रो धनवान् भवेत् । रोगी रोगात् प्रमुच्येत श्रुत्वा भागवतामृतम् ॥४६॥
वन्ध्या वा काकवन्ध्या वा मृतवत्सा च याङ्गना । देवीभागवतं श्रुत्वा लभेत् पुत्रं चिरायुषम् ॥४७॥
पूजितं यद्गृहे नित्यं श्रीभागवतपुस्तकम् । तद्गृहं तीर्थभूतं हि वसतां पापनाशकम् ॥४८॥
अष्टम्यां वा चतुर्दश्यां नवम्यां भक्तिसंयुत: । य: पठेच्छुणुयाद् वापिस सिद्धिं लभते पराम् ॥४९॥
पठन् द्विजो वेदविदग्रणीर्भवेद् । बाहुप्रजातो धराणीपति: स्यात् वैश्य: पठन् वित्तसमृद्धिमेति शूद्रोऽपि श्रृण्वन स्वकुलोत्तम: स्यात् ॥५०॥
॥ इति श्रीस्कन्दपुराणे मानसखण्डे श्रीमद्देवीभागवतमाहात्म्ये देवीभागवश्रवणमाहात्म्यवर्णनं नाम प्रथमो‍‌ऽध्य:॥१॥

ऋग्वेदोक्त देवीसूक्तम्

ॐ अहमित्यष्टर्चस्य सूक्त स्य वागाम्भृणी ऋषि: सच्चित्सुखात्मक: सर्वगत: परमात्मा देवता, द्वितीयाया ऋचो जगती, शिष्टानां त्रिष्टुप् छन्द:, देवीमाहात्म्य पाठे विनियोग:।

ध्यानम्

ॐ सिंहस्था शशिशेखरा मरकतप्रख्यैश्चतुर्भिर्भुजै: शङ्खं चक्रधनु:शरांश्च दधती नेत्रैस्त्रिभि: शोभिता।
आमुक्ताङ्गदहारकङ्कणरणत्काञ्चीरणन्नूपुरा दुर्गा दुर्गतिहारिणी भवतु नो रत्‍‌नोल्लसत्कुण्डला॥

देवीसूक्तम्

Vak Uwach
वाक् उवाच 

 ॐ  अहं रुद्रेभिर्वसुभिश्चराम्यहमादित्यैरुत विश्वदेवै:।
अहं मित्रावरुणोभा बिभ‌र्म्यहमिन्द्राग्नी अहमश्रि्वनोभा॥१॥

Om ! I move along with the Rudras, Vasus, Adithas and all other Devas. I bear the Mithra, Varuna, Indra, Agni and the two Ashwini Devas. [1]

अहं सोममाहनसं बिभ‌र्म्यहं त्वष्टारमुत पूषणं भगम्।
अहं दधामि द्रविणं हविष्मते सुप्राव्ये यजमानाय सुन्वते॥२॥

I bear the Soman who is the destroyer of enemies and the Twashta, Bushan and Bagan. I give wealth to the performer of the Yajna or Sacrifice who submits sacrificial things in the Yajna, who pours the Soma rasa, and who makes the Devas receive the Havis or their due of the Sacrifice. [2]

अहं राष्ट्री संगमनी वसूनां चिकितुषी प्रथमा यज्ञियानाम्।
तां मा देवा व्यदधु: पुरुत्रा भूरिस्थात्रां भूय्र्यावेशयन्तीम्॥३॥

I am the Queen of the Universe; I give wealth to those who worship me. I am the all-knowing one and the prime one among the worshippable deities. I enter many bodies as the Atma, taking various forms and with different manifestations, in various ways. Hence, the Devas have incorporated me in various places.[3]

मया सो अन्नमत्ति यो विपश्यति य: प्राणिति य ई श्रृणोत्युक्त म्।
अमन्तवो मां त उप क्षियन्ति श्रुधि श्रुत श्रद्धिवं ते वदामि॥४॥

That one who eats food, who sees, breathes, and hears whatever is said, he does all that only through me (my powers). Those who do not understand me, die. O dear one ! (to the worshipper or devotee), hear this singing of mine with concentration. [4]

अहमेव स्वयमिदं वदामि जुष्टं देवेभिरुत मानुषेभि:।
यं कामये तं तमुग्रं कृणोमि तं ब्रह्माणं तमृषिं तं सुमेधाम्॥५॥

"All these are me (and various manifestations of mine). I am the one worshipped by the Devas and the earthly beings. If I like someone (for his meditation towards me), I make him the greatest, the most intelligent as a Sage, and as a Self-Realised soul. [5]

अहं रुद्राय धनुरा तनोमि ब्रह्मद्विषे शरवे हन्तवा उ।
अहं जनाय समदं कृणोम्यहंद्यावापृथिवीआविवेश॥६॥

I bend the bow of the Rudra to kill all those enemies who detest all good things. I fight these bad elements / enemies only for the people. I enter, pervade and persist throughout the earth and the sky.[6]

अहं सुवे पितरमस्य मूर्धन्मम योनिरप्स्वन्त: समुद्रे ।
ततो वि तिष्ठे भुवनानु विश्वोतामूं द्यां व‌र्ष्मणोप स्पशमि॥७॥

I created the sky, which is (as a shelter) above the earth and which is fatherly for all beings. My creativity (power) is within the Ocean and waters. By that, I am present in all the worlds. And I touch the sky with my body.[7]

अहमेव वात इव प्रवाम्यारभमाणा भुवनानि विश्वा।
परो दिवा पर एना पृथिव्यैतावती महिना संबभूव॥८॥

When I start creating all the worlds, I function like the air (so fast in the function). I am taller and higher than the Sky. I am greater than this earth. Such is my valor, might, prowess and greatness. [8]

Note: Vak  - the daughter of Rishi Ambhrina, she had connection with Devi.

Here is an article containing the toTakaashhTakam, eight verses composed in honor of Adi Shankaraachaarya. 

शंकरं शंकराचार्यं केशवं बादरायणम् । 
सूत्रभाष्यकृतौ वन्दे भगवन्तौ पुनः पुनः॥

I offer obeisances again and again to shrii Veda Vyaasa, the author of the Brahma suutras, who is none other than Lord VishNu, and shrii Shankaraachaarya, the commentator on those suutras, who is none other than Lord Shiva.


नारायणं पद्मभुवं वसिष्ठं शक्तिं च तत्पुत्रपराशरं च । 
व्यासं शुकं गौडपदं महान्तं गोविन्दयोगीन्द्रमथास्य शिष्यम्॥
श्री शंकराचार्यमथास्य पद्मपादं च हस्तामलकं च शिष्यम् । 
तं तोटकं वातिर्ककारमन्यानस्मद्गुरून् संततमानतो । अस्मि 

These two verses honor the advaita paramparaa . The names mentioned here, in order, are 1) Shriiman naaraayaNa, 2) Brahmaa, 3) VasishhTha, 4) Shakti, 5) Paraashara, 6) Vyaasa, 7) Shuka, 8) GauDapaada, 9) Govindapaada, 10) Shrii (Adi) Shankaraachaarya, and his four disciples, 11) Padmapaada, 12) Hastaamalaka, 13) toTaka, and 14) Sureshvara, and other Gurus.


विदिताखिलशास्त्रसुधाजलधे महितोपनिषत् कथितार्थनिधे । 
हृदये कलये विमलं चरणं भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥१॥

O knower of the nectar-ocean of the scriptures, the expounder of the knowledge of the great upanishadic treasure! I meditate on Your pure lotus feet in my heart . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


करुणावरुणालय पालय मां भवसागरदुःखविदूनहृदम् । 
रचयाखिलदर्शनतत्त्वविदं भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥२॥

Save me whose heart is afflicted by the misery of the ocean of births, O (You who are) the ocean of compassion! (By Your grace) make me the knower of the truths of all the systems of philosophy . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


भवता जनता सुहिता भविता निजबोधविचारण चारुमते । 
कलयेश्वरजीवविवेकविदं भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥३॥

The people have found happiness due to You, who have the intellect adept in
the inquiry into Self-knowledge . Make me understand the knowledge of God
and the soul . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


भव एव भवानिति मे नितरां समजायत चेतसि कौतुकिता । 
मम वारय मोहमहाजलधिं भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणं॥४॥

You are Lord Shiva Himself . Knowing this my mind is filled with an abundance of joy . Put an end to my sea of delusion . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


सुकृते . अधिकृते बहुधा भवतो भविता समदर्शनलालसता । 
अतिदीनमिमं परिपालय मां भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥५॥

Only after numerous virtuous deeds have been performed in many ways, does a keen desire for the experience of Brahman through You arise. Protect (me who am) extremely helpless . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


जगतीमवितुं कलिताकृतयो विचरन्ति महामहसश्छलतः । 
अहिमांशुरिवात्र विभासि गुरो भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥६॥

For the sake of saving the world, (Your) great (disciples) wander assuming various forms and guises . O Guru, You shine like the sun (among them). O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


गुरुपुंगव पुंगवकेतन ते समतामयतां नहि को . अपि सुधीः । 
शरणागतवत्सल तत्त्वनिधे भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥७॥

O Best among the Gurus! The Lord whose flag bears the emblem of the bull! You have no equal among the wise . You who are affectionate to those who seek refuge! The treasure of truth! O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.


विदिता न मया विशदैककला न च किंचन काञ्चनमस्ति गुरो । 
द्रुतमेव विधेहि कृपां सहजां भव शंकर देशिक मे शरणम्॥८॥

I have neither understood even one branch of knowledge clearly, nor do I possess any wealth, O Guru . Quickly bestow on me the compassion which is
natural to You . O Preceptor Shankara, be my refuge.

वसुदेवसुतं देवं कंसचाणूरमर्दनम् देवकीपरमानन्दं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ १ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who is the son of Vasudev, Who is the Lord, Who slayed Kans and Chanur, and Who is the bliss of Devaki.||1||

आतसीपुष्पसंकाशम् हारनूपुरशोभितम् रत्नकण्कणकेयूरं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ २ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who is surrounded by flowers, Who is adorned with a garland and anklets, and Who has gem-studded necklace and arm-bracelet.||2||

कुटिलालकसंयुक्तं पूर्णचंद्रनिभाननम् विलसत्कुण्डलधरं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ३ ॥

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who is adorned with curly tresses, Who has a face resplendent like full-moon, and Who has shining earrings.||3||

मंदारगन्धसंयुक्तं चारुहासं चतुर्भुजम् बर्हिपिञ्छावचूडाङ्गं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ४ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who is with the perfume of Mandara (a coral tree flower), Who has beautiful smile, Who has four hands (as Vishnu), and Who has peacock feather at the forehead.||4||

उत्फुल्लपद्मपत्राक्षं नीलजीमूतसन्निभम् यादवानां शिरोरत्नं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ५ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who has eyes like blooming lotus flower, Who resembles a new blue cloud, and Who is the best in the dynasty of Yadu.||5||

रुक्मिणीकेळिसंयुक्तं पीतांबरसुशोभितम् अवाप्ततुलसीगन्धं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ६ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who plays with Rukmini (Lakshmi), Who is adorned with yellow-robes, and Who has attained the perfume of Tulsi.||6||

गोपिकानां कुचद्वन्द्व कुंकुमाङ्कितवक्षसम् श्री निकेतं महेष्वासं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ७ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who has the marks of saffron from the dual-breasts of the cowgirls, Who is the abode of Lakshmi (Sri), and Who has mighty arrows.||7||

श्रीवत्साङ्कं महोरस्कं वनमालाविराजितम् शङ्खचक्रधरं देवं कृष्णं वंदे जगद्गुरुम् ॥ ८ ॥ 

I sing praise of Krishna, the Preceptor of the universe, Who has the sign of ‘‘Srivatsa’’ at His broad-chest, Who has a flower-garland, and Who holds the conch-shell and discus (shankha and chakra).||8||

कृष्णाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं प्रातरुत्थाय यः पठेत् कोटिजन्मकृतं पापं स्मरणेन विनष्यति ॥ ९ ॥

Having awaken in the morning, those who study these blissful Cantos on Krishna, destroy their sins of millions of birth.||9||

उद्यच्चन्दनकुङ्कुमारुणपयोधाराभिराप्लावितां नानान‌र्घ्यमणिप्रवालघटितां दत्तां गृहाणाम्बिके।

आमृष्टां सुरसुन्दरीभिरभितो हस्ताम्बुजैर्भक्ति तो मात: सुन्दरि भक्त कल्पलतिके श्रीपादुकामादरात्॥1॥
देवेन्द्रादिभिरर्चितं सुरगणैरादाय सिंहासनं चञ्चत्काञ्चनसंचयाभिरचितं चारुप्रभाभास्वरम्।
एतच्चम्पककेतकीपरिमलं तैलं महानिर्मलं गन्धोद्वर्तनमादरेण तरुणीदत्तं गृहाणाम्बिके॥2॥
पश्चाद्देवि गृहाण शम्भुगृहिणि श्रीसुन्दरि प्रायशो गन्धद्रव्यसमूहनिर्भरतरं धात्रीफलं निर्मलम्।
तत्केशान् परिशोध्य कङ्कतिकया मन्दाकिनीस्त्रोतसि स्नात्वा प्रोज्ज्वलगन्धकं भवतु हे श्रीसुन्दरि त्वन्मुदे॥3॥
सुराधिपतिकामिनीकरसरोजनालीधृतां सचन्दनसकुङ्कुमागुरुभरेण विभ्राजिताम्।
महापरिमलोज्ज्वलां सरसशुद्धकस्तूरिकां गृहाण वरदायिनि त्रिपुरसुन्दरि श्रीप्रदे॥4॥
गन्धर्वामरकिन्नरप्रियतमासंतानहस्ताम्बुज प्रस्तारै‌र्ध्रियमाणमुत्तमतरं काश्मीरजापिञ्जरम।
मातर्भास्वरभानुमण्डललसत्कान्तिप्रदानोज्ज्वलं चैतन्निर्मलमातनोतु वसनं श्रीसुन्दरि त्वन्मुदम्॥5॥
स्वर्णाकल्पितकुण्डले श्रुतियुगे हस्ताम्बुजे मुद्रिका मध्ये सारसना नितम्बफलके मञ्जीरमड्घ्रिद्वये।
हारो वक्षसि कङ्कणौ क्वणरणत्कारौ करद्वन्द्वके विन्यस्तं मुकुटं शिरस्यनुदिनं दत्तोन्मदं स्तूयताम्॥6॥
ग्रीवायां धृतकान्तिकान्तपटलं ग्रैवेयकं सुन्दरं सिन्दूरं विलसल्ललाटफलके सौन्दर्यमुद्राधरम्।
राजत्कज्जलमुज्ज्वलोत्पलदलश्रीमोचने लोचने तद्दिव्यौषधिनिर्मितं रचयतु श्रीशाम्भवि श्रीप्रदे॥7॥
अमन्दतरमन्दरोन्मथितदुग्धसिन्धूद्भवं निशाकरकरोपमं त्रिपुरसुन्दरि श्रीप्रदे।
गृहाण मुखमीक्षितुं मुकुरबिम्बमाविद्रुमै-र्विनिर्मितमघच्छिदे रतिकराम्बुजस्थायिनम्॥8॥
कस्तूरीद्रवचन्दनागुरुसुधाधाराभिराप्लावितं चञ्चच्चम्पकपाटलादिसुरभिद्रव्यै: सुगन्धीकृतम्।
देवस्त्रीगणमस्तकस्थितमहारत्‍‌नादिकुम्भव्रजै रम्भ: शाम्भवि संभ्रमेण विमलं दत्तं गृहाणाम्बिके॥9॥
कह्लारोत्पलनागकेसरसरोजाख्यावलीमालती- मल्लीकैरवकेतकादिकुसुमै रक्ता श्वमारादिभि:।
पुष्पैर्माल्यभरेण वै सुरभिणा नानारसस्त्रोतसा ताम्राम्भोजनिवासिनीं भगवतीं श्रीचण्डिकां पूजये॥10॥
मांसीगुग्गुलचन्दनागुरुरज:कर्पूरशैलेयजैर्माध्वीकै: सह कुङ्कुमै: सुरचितै: सर्पिर्भिरामिश्रितै:।
सौरभ्यस्थितिमन्दिरे मणिमये पात्रे भवेत् प्रीतये धूपोऽयं सुरकामिनीविरचित: श्रीचण्डिके त्वन्मुदे॥11॥
घृतद्रवपरिस्फुरद्रुचिररत्‍‌नयष्ट्यान्वितो महातिमिरनाशन: सुरनितम्बिनीनिर्मित:।
सुवर्णचषकस्थित: सघनसारवत्र्यान्वित-स्तव त्रिपुरसुन्दरि स्फुरति देवि दीपा मुदे॥12॥
जातीसौरभनिर्भरं रुचिकरं शाल्योदनं निर्मलं युक्तं हिङ्गुमरीचजीरसुरभिद्रव्यान्वितै‌र्व्यञ्जनै:।
पक्वान्नेन सपायसेन मधुना दध्याज्यसम्मिश्रितं नैवेद्यं सुरकामिनीविरचितं श्रीचण्डिके त्वन्मुदे॥13॥
लवङ्गकलिकोज्ज्वलं बहुलनागवल्लीदलं सजातिफलकोमलं सघनसारपूगीफलम्।
सुधामधुरिमाकुलं रुचिररत्‍‌नपात्रस्थितं गृहाण मुखपङ्कजे स्फुरितमम्ब ताम्बूलकम्॥14॥
शरत्प्रभवचन्द्रम:स्फुरितचन्द्रिकासुन्दरं गलत्सुरतरङ्गिणीललितमौक्ति काडम्बरम्।
गृहाण नवकाञ्चनप्रभवदण्डखण्डोज्ज्वलं महात्रिपुरसुन्दरि प्रकटमातपत्रं महत्॥15॥
मातस्त्वन्मुदमातनोतु सुभगस्त्रीभि:सदाऽऽन्दोलितं शुभ्रं चामरमिन्दुकुन्दसदृशं प्रस्वेददु:खापहम्।
सद्योऽगस्त्यवसिष्ठनारदशुकव्यासादिवाल्मीकिभि: स्वे चित्ते क्रियमाण एव कुरुतां शर्माणि वेदध्वनि:॥16॥
स्वर्गाङ्गणे वेणुमृदङ्गशङ्खभेरीनिनादैरुपगीयमाना।
कोलाहलैराकलिता तवास्तु विद्याधरीनृत्यकला सुखाय॥17॥
देवि भक्ति रसभावितवृत्ते प्रीयतां यदि कुतोऽपि लभ्यते।
तत्र लौल्यमपि सत्फलमेकं जन्मकोटिभिरपीह न लभ्यम्॥18॥
एतै: षोडशभि: पद्यैरुपचारोपकल्पितै:।
य: परां देवतां स्तौति स तेषां फलमापनुयात्॥19॥
इति दुर्गातन्त्रै दुर्गामानस पूजा समाप्त ॥

Seeking Mercy from Goddess

न मन्त्रं नो यन्त्रं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिमहो
न चाह्वानं ध्यानं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिकथा:।
न जाने मुद्रास्ते तदपि च न जाने विलपनं
परं जाने मातस्त्वदनुसरणं क्लेशहरणम्॥1॥

Oh! I don't know the Mantra, the Yantra, or the Eulogies. I don't even know how to invoke You, how to meditate on You, and even the speech behind Your eulogies. I don't know the postures [in which to say eulogies], and I don't know how to wail. [But] O Mother! I know that following You absolves the biggest distresses.||1||

विधेरज्ञानेन द्रविणविरहेणालसतया
विधेयाशक्यत्वात्तव चरणयोर्या च्युतिरभूत्।
तदेतत् क्षन्तव्यं जननि सकलोद्धारिणि शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्व चिदपि कुमाता न भवति॥2॥

The offerings — which were due to the lack of knowledge of methodology, by the lack of resources, by indolence, or due to the lack of strength for submission — fallen [by me] on Your dual-feet, forgive all those mistakes, O Mother! O Shiva, Who absolves everyone! Because a son can become bad or ignorant about his duties as an offspring, but the Mother always remains a Mother.||2||

पृथिव्यां पुत्रास्ते जननि बहव: सन्ति सरला:
परं तेषां मध्ये विरलतरलोहं तव सुत:।
मदीयोऽयं त्याग: समुचितमिदं नो तव शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्व चिदपि कुमाता न भवति॥3॥

O Mother! There are many sons of Yours on this earth and they are gentle. Amidst them, I am Your son, who is extremely libidinous. I have the feelings of possession, and I have no compassion within me. But I am Yours, O Shiva! A son can become bad or ignorant about his duties as an offspring, but the Mother always remains a Mother.||3||

जगन्मातर्मातस्तव चरणसेवा न रचिता
न वा दत्तं देवि द्रविणमपि भूयस्तव मया।
तथापि त्वं स्नेहं मयि निरुपमं यत्प्रकुरुषे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्व चिदपि कुमाता न भवति॥4॥

O Mother! O Mother of the world! Your feet has not been engaged upon [by me] and, even more so, Your feet has not been submitted with offerings by me. Even then, You shower immaculate benevolence on me. Because a son can become bad or ignorant about his duties as an offspring, but the Mother always remains a Mother.||4||

परित्यक्ता देवा विविधविधिसेवाकुलतया
मया पञ्चाशीतेरधिकमपनीते तु वयसि।
इदानीं चेन्मातस्तव यदि कृपा नापि भविता
निरालम्बो लम्बोदरजननि कं यामि शरणम्॥5॥

At an age of more than eighty-five years, by me, who lacks the prowess to perform various rituals, the Devas have been left along. O Mother of Lambodar (Parvati)! Now, in this situation, if Your benevolence does not happens on me, then, I, the unsupported one, will take whose refuge?||5||

श्वपाको जल्पाको भवति मधुपाकोपमगिरा
निरातङ्को रङ्को विहरित चिरं कोटिकनकै:।
तवापर्णे कर्णे विशति मनुवर्णे फलमिदं
जन: को जानीते जननि जपनीयं जपविधौ॥6॥

O Aparna! A dog-eater (Chandala) becomes a talkative person with honey-like sweet words coming out from the tongue; and a poor man roams fearlessly for long time in golden riches, when the chants of Your name fall [seat] inside the ear of anyone. O Mother! Then, in that case, who can know the achievements due to continuous chants of Your name based on the appropriate rules?||6||

चिताभस्मालेपो गरलमशनं दिक्पटधरो
जटाधारी कण्ठे भुजगपतिहारी पशुपति:।
कपाली भूतेशो भजति जगदीशैकपदवीं
भवानि त्वत्पाणिग्रहणपरिपाटीफलमिदम्॥7॥

Kapali, Who has ashes from the burnt corpses on body, Who has the directions as clothes (cloth-less), Who has thick tress-locks, Who has a garland of king of snake in neck, Who is known as Pashupati, and Who is the ruler of ghosts, attains the position of poison-destroyer and Lord of the world. O Bhavani! This is just a result of addition of You as His consort.||7||

न मोक्षस्याकाड्क्षा भवविभववाञ्छापि च न मे
न विज्ञानापेक्षा शशिमुखि सुखेच्छापि न पुन:।
अतस्त्वां संयाचे जननि जननं यातु मम वै
मृडानी रुद्राणी शिव शिव भवानीति जपत:॥8॥

I don't have the desire to attain Moksha, neither I have the desire to attain luxuries and resplendence in the world. I don't have expectations of sciences, and O the Moon-faced Goddess! I don't even desire for luxuries and comfort. O Mother! Thus, I beg You, that whenever I am born, give me the chanting of these names to me — Mridani, Rudrani, Shiv, Bhavani.||8||

नाराधितासि विधिना विविधोपचारै:
किं रुक्षचिन्तनपरैर्न कृतं वचोभि:।
श्यामे त्वमेव यदि किञ्चन मय्यनाथे
धत्से कृपामुचितमम्ब परं तवैव॥9॥

O Shyama! You are not revered by me, using methods or various prescriptions. I didn't do anything beyond the rough-thinking and speech. But even then, if You keep me, the destitute and orphan, in benevolence, then it suits You; since You indeed are beyond everything, O Mother!||9||

आपत्सु मग्न: स्मरणं त्वदीयं
करोमि दुर्गे करुणार्णवेशि।
नैतच्छठत्वं मम भावयेथा:
क्षुधातृषार्ता जननीं स्मरन्ति॥10॥

O Durga, Who is the abode of ocean of mercy! When I remember You in troublesome situations, don't think it is stupidity. It is because when a child is hungry, the child only remembers the Mother.||10||

जगदम्ब विचित्रमत्र किं परिपूर्णा करुणास्ति चेन्मयि।
अपराधपरम्परापरं न हि माता समुपेक्षते सुतम्॥11॥

O Mother of the world! You are full of benevolence for me; [but] what is the surprise in this? [Because] Even when a son is full of faults, the Mother does not ignores or disowns the child.||11||

मत्सम: पातकी नास्ति पापन्घी त्वत्समा न हि।
एवं ज्ञात्वा महादेवि यथा योग्यं तथा कुरु॥12॥

O Mahadevi! There is no fallen one like me, and there is indeed no absolver of sins like You. Knowing this, You do what You think as appropriate.||12||
