Salutations to Lord Shiva — With English Translation

ॐ नमः शम्भवाय च मयोभवाय च नमः शंकराय च मयस्कराय च नमः शिवाय च शिवतराय च ॥
Meaning: Om, salutations to Śambhu (the source of bliss) and to Mayobhava (the bestower of happiness); salutations to Śaṅkara (the beneficent) and to Mayaskara (the giver of joy); salutations to Śiva (the auspicious) and to Śivatara (the most auspicious).

ईशानः सर्वविद्यानामीश्वरः सर्वभूतानां ब्रह्माधिपतिर्ब्रह्मणोऽधिपतिर्ब्रह्मा शिवो मे अस्तु सदाशिवोम् ॥
Meaning: The Lord of all knowledge, the ruler of all beings, the master of Brahmā and of all creation—may that Brahmā, who is Śiva, the eternal auspicious one (Sadāśiva), be ever present for me.

तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि। तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात् ॥
Meaning: We meditate upon the Supreme Being (Tatpuruṣa); we contemplate Mahādeva (the Great God). May that Rudra impel our minds (towards spiritual realization).

अघोरेभ्योऽथ घोरेभ्यो घोरघोरतरेभ्यः । सर्वेभ्यः सर्वशर्वेभ्यो नमस्ते अस्तु रुद्ररूपेभ्यः ॥
Meaning: Salutations to the non-terrifying (Aghora) and to the terrifying (Ghora), and to those even more terrible than the terrible. Salutations to all the forms of Rudra, the destroyer of all.

वामदेवाय नमो ज्येष्ठाय नमः श्रेष्ठाय नमो रुद्राय नमः कालाय नमः कलविकरणाय नमो बलविकरणाय नमः बलाय नमो बलप्रमथनाथाय नमः सर्वभूतदमनाय नमो मनोन्मनाय नमः ॥
Meaning: Salutations to Vāmadeva (the gracious one); salutations to the eldest; salutations to the best; salutations to Rudra; salutations to Kāla (time); salutations to Kala-vikaraṇa (the transformer of time); salutations to Bala-vikaraṇa (the transformer of strength); salutations to Bala (strength); salutations to the lord who crushes strength; salutations to the subduer of all beings; salutations to the one who delights the mind.

सद्योजातं प्रपद्यामि सद्योजाताय वै नमो नमः । भवे भवे नातिभवे भवस्व मां भवोद्भवाय नमः
नमः सायं नमः प्रातर्नमो रात्र्या नमो दिवा । भवाय च शर्वाय चोभाभ्यामकरं नमः ॥
नमः सायं नमः प्रातर्नमो रात्र्या नमो दिवा । भवाय च शर्वाय चोभाभ्यामकरं नमः ॥
Meaning: I take refuge in Sadyojāta (the instantly born); repeated salutations to Him. In every birth, may I not be overwhelmed by birth—salutations to the origin of existence.

यस्य निःश्वसितं वेदा यो वेदेभ्योऽखिलं जगत् । निर्ममे तमहं वन्दे विद्यातीर्थं महेश्वरम् ॥
Meaning: From whose breath the Vedas arose, and who created the entire universe from the Vedas—I bow to that great Lord (Maheśvara), who is the sacred abode of all knowledge.

त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥
Meaning: We worship Tryambaka (the three-eyed one), who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. May He liberate me from death, for the sake of immortality, just as a cucumber is released from its stalk (effortlessly).

सर्वो वै रुद्रस्तस्मै रुद्राय नमो अस्तु । पुरुषो वै रुद्रः सन्महो नमो नमः ॥
Meaning: All this is indeed Rudra; to that Rudra, salutations. That Puruṣa (Supreme Being) is Rudra—the great, glorious one; salutations again and again.

विश्वं भूतं भुवनं चित्रं बहुधा जातं जायमानं च यत् । सर्वो ह्येष रुद्रस्तस्मै रुद्राय नमो अस्तु ॥
Meaning: Whatever exists—the whole universe, the moving and unmoving, the manifold creation, that which is born and that which is being born—all that is indeed Rudra. To that Rudra, salutations.

शिवो गुरुः शिवो देवः शिवो बन्धुः शरीरिणाम् । शिव आत्मा शिवो जीवः शिवादन्यन्न किञ्चन ॥
Meaning: Śiva is the Guru (teacher), Śiva is the God, Śiva is the relative of all embodied beings. Śiva is the Self, Śiva is the life-force; there is nothing other than Śiva.

यस्येन्द्रियाणि सर्वाणि वर्तन्ते शिवकर्मसु । स निस्तरति संसारं भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति ॥
Meaning: One whose all senses are engaged in the actions of Śiva (devotion to Shiva) crosses the ocean of worldly existence and attains both enjoyment (bhukti) and liberation (mukti).

Meaning: Sāṃba Sadāśiva (the eternal auspicious one with Umā). Sāṃba Sadāśiva. Sāṃba Sadāśiva. (Chanting His name)
