नम: श्रीकृष्णचन्द्राय परिपूर्णतमाय च । असंख्याण्डाधिपतये गोलोकपतये नम: ॥१॥
श्रीराधापतये तुभ्यं व्रजाधीशाय ते नम: । नम: श्रीनन्दपुत्राय यशोदानन्दनाय च ॥२॥
देवकीसुत गोविन्द वासुदेव जगत्पते । यदूत्तम जगन्नाथ पाहि मां पुरुषोत्तम ॥३॥
वाणी सदा ते गुणवर्णने स्यात् कर्णौ कथायां समदोश्च कर्मणि । मन: सदा त्वच्चरणाविन्दयोर्दृशौ स्फुरद्धामविशेषसर्शने ॥४॥

Indra says

नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते ।
शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥१॥

Namosthesthu Maha Maye Sree peede, sura poojithe,
Sanka, chakra, Gadha hasthe Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [1]
 

Salutations to you, who are the illusory power of the Universe, the basis for all wealth, who are worshipped by Divine beings. Conch, chakra, and club in hand, Mahalakshmi, salutations to you. (1)

नमस्ते गरुडारूढे कोलासुरभयङ्करि ।
सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥२॥

Namasthe garudarude Kolasura bhayam kari Sarva papa hare, devi Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [2]
 

Salutations to you, seated on Garuda, cause of fear for Lord Saturn, remover of all sin, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you (2)

सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयङ्करि ।
सर्वदुःखहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥३॥

Sarvagne Sarva varadhe Sarva dushta Bhayam karee,
Sarva dukha hare, deviMaha Lakshmi Namosthuthe.[ 3] 

All-knowing, boon giver for all, cause of fear for all the wicked, remover of all sorrow, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (3)

सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनि ।
मन्त्रमूर्ते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥४॥

Sidhi budhi pradhe devi Bhakthi mukthi pradayinee,
Manthra moorthe  sada devi Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [4] 

Goddess, who gives success and intelligence completely, she who generously gives enjoyment and liberation, who is the form of the mantra, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (4)

आद्यन्तरहिते देवि आद्यशक्तिमहेश्वरि ।
योगजे योगसम्भूते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥५॥

Adhyantha rahithe, devi Adhi Shakthi maheswari,
Yogaje yoga sambhoothe Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [5]
 

Beginningless and endless goddess, Supreme Goddess of the universe, she who is yoga and is born of yoga, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (5)

स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्ति महोदरे ।
महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥६॥

Sthoola Sukshma maha roudhre Maha Shakthi Maho dhare,
Maha papa hare devi Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [6]
 

The great terror (Durga) of gross and subtle (wicked beings), supreme power, engulfing all, redemptress of the universe, remover of the great sins, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (6)

पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि ।
परमेशि जगन्माता महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥७॥

Padmasana sthithe, devi Para brahma swaroopini,
Para mesi, jagan matha Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [7] 

Seated on a lotus, the Goddess, whose nature is the transcendent infinite, transcendent ruler, mother of the world, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (7)

श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालङ्कारभूषिते ।
जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥८॥

Swethambara dhare, devi Nanalankara bhooshithe,
Jagat sthithe, jagan matha Maha Lakshmi Namosthuthe. [8] 

Clad in white clothes, adorned with various ornaments, mother of the world, abiding in the world, Goddess Lakshmi, salutations to you. (8)

फलश्रुति
(Benefits of chanting this prayer)

महालक्ष्म्यष्टकस्तोत्रं यः पठेद्भक्तिमान्नरः ।
सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नोति राज्यं प्राप्नोति सर्वदा ॥

Maha lakmyashtakam stotram Ya padeth Bhakthiman nara,
Sarva sidhi mavapnothi Rajyam prapnothi sarvadha.
 

The devotee who chants this verse of eight stanzas to Goddess Lakshmi gains all success and gains sovereignty at all times.

एककाले पठेन्नित्यं महापापविनाशनम् ।
द्विकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं धनधान्यसमन्वितः ॥

Yeka kale paden nithyam, maha papa vinasanam Dwi kale paden nithyam Dana dhanya samanvitha,
 He who always recites once daily, gains destruction of great sin; he who recites twice daily, always is endowed with wealth and food.

त्रिकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं महाशत्रुविनाशनम् ।
महालक्ष्मीर्भवेन्नित्यं प्रसन्न वरदा शुभा ॥

Tri kalam paden nithyam Maha shathru vinasanam Maha Lakshmir Bhaven nithyam Prasanna, varada Shubha. 

He who recites it three times daily always gains destruction of great enemies, and (Goddess Lakshmi) the pure giver of boons, would be always pleased (with the person).

करारविन्देन पदारविन्दं मुखारविन्दे विनिवेशयन्तम् ।
वटस्य पत्रस्य पुटे शयानं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥१॥

Kararavindena padaravindham,
Mukharavinde vinivesayantham,
Vatasya pathrasya pute sayanam,
Balam mukundam mansa smarami. 1

With my mind I think of that child Mukunda*,
Who with his lotus like hand catches his lotus like feet,
And brings it near his lotus like face and steals our heart,
And sleeps peacefully on a banyan leaf.

*He who gives immortal bliss.

संहृत्य लोकान्वटपत्रमध्ये शयानमाद्यन्तविहीनरूपम् ।
सर्वेश्वरं सर्वहितावतारं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥२॥

Samhruthya lokaan vatapathramadhye,
Sayanamadhyantha viheena roopam,
Sarveshwaram sarva hithavatharam,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 2


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who after dissolution of the earth,
Sleeps on the middle of leaf of a banyan tree,
Whose form has neither end nor beginning,
Who is the god of all,
And who is the incarnation of good for all.

इन्दीवरश्यामलकोमलांगं इन्द्रादिदेवार्चितपादपद्मम्  ।
सन्तानकल्पद्रुममाश्रितानां बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥३॥

Indeevara shyamala komalangam,
Indrathi devarchitha pada padmam,
Santhana kalpa druma masrithanaam,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 3


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who has a pretty dark mien ,
With the colour of a blue lotus,
Whose lotus like feet is worshipped,
By all devas and Indra their king,
And who is the wish giving tree,
Blessing progeny to those who pray for it.

लम्बालकं लम्बितहारयष्टिं शृंगारलीलांकितदन्तपङ्क्तिम् ।
बिंबाधरं चारुविशालनेत्रं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥४॥

Lambhalakam lambhitha harayashtim,
Srungara leelangitha dantha panktheem,
Bimbadaram charu vilasa nethram,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 4


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who has locks of his hair falling all over his face,
Who wears long pretty hanging chains,
Who has rows of nectar like teeth that shine with love,
Who has reddish lips like the Bimba fruit,
And who has very pretty captivating eyes.

शिक्ये निधायाद्यपयोदधीनि बहिर्गतायां व्रजनायिकायाम् ।
भुक्त्वा यथेष्टं कपटेन सुप्तं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥५॥

Sikhye nithayadhya payothatheeni,
Bahirgadayam vraja naykayam,
Bukthwa yadeshtam kapatena suptham,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 5


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who acts as if he is sleeping, after eating,
Butter Sufficient to meet his desire,
When Yasoda had gone out,
After keeping milk, and curd in a pot.

कलिन्दजान्तस्थितकालियस्य फणाग्ररंगे नटनप्रियन्तम् ।
तत्पुच्छहस्तं शरदिन्दुवक्त्रं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥६॥

Kalindajantha sthitha Kaiyasya,
Phanagrange natana priyantham,
Thath pucha hastham saradindu vakthram,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 6


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who has got a face like the autumn moon,
And who while he was on the stone in river Kalindhi,
Desires to dance on the hood of the snake Kaalinga,
Holding his tail by one of his hands.

उलूखले बद्धमुदारशौर्यं उत्तुंगयुग्मार्जुन भंगलीलम् ।
उत्फुल्लपद्मायत चारुनेत्रं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥७॥

Ulookhale badha mudhara souryam,
Uthunga padmarjuna bhanga leelam,
Uthphulla padmayatha charu nethram,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 7


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who is tied to a mortar,
Who is charitable and heroic,
Who broke the twin Arjuna trees playfully,
And whose eyes are like fully open red lotus.

आलोक्य मातुर्मुखमादरेण स्तन्यं पिबन्तं सरसीरुहाक्षम् ।
सच्चिन्मयं देवमनन्तरूपं बालं मुकुन्दं मनसा स्मरामि ॥८॥

Alokhya maadur mukha madarena,
Sthanyam pibhantham sasareehuaksham,
Sachinmayam, devamanantharoopam,
Balam mukundam manasa smarami. 8


With my mind I think of that child Mukunda,
Who lovingly looks at his mother’s face,
When he drinks milk from her,
Who is having eyes like the lotus flower,
Who is the unalloyed form of truth,
And who is the God with limitless form.

गोष्ठप्राङ्गणरिङ्खणलोलमनायासं परमायासम्  ।
मायाकल्पितनानाकारमनाकारं भुवनाकारम्  
क्ष्माया नाथमनाथं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥१॥

Sathyam jnanam anantham nithyamanakasam paramakasam,
Goshta prangana ringana lolam anayasam paramayasam,
Maya kalpitha nanakara manakaram bhuvanakaram,
Kshmama nadha manadham, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 1

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who is truth, wisdom, eternal, stable, not ether bound and the eternal ether, Who is happy to crawl in cow sheds, is beyond problems and is the end of problems, Who due to illusion appears as without any form and with many forms, And who is of the universe, consort of Lakshmi and is without any lord. 1

मृत्स्नामत्सीहेति यशोदाताडनशैशव संत्रासम्  
व्यदितवक्त्रालोकितलोकालोकचतुर्दशलोकालिम्  ।
लोकत्रयपुरमूलस्तंभं लोकालोकमनालोकम्  
लोकेशं परमेशं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥२॥

Mruth sanamathsihethi yasodha thadana shaisava sam thrasam,
Vyadhitha vakthralokitha lokaloka chathurdasa lokaleem,
Loka thrayapura moola sthambham, lokalokamanalokam,
Lokesam paramesam, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 2

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who with a child like fear of Yasoda’s punishment when he ate mud, Showed her in his open mouth visible and invisible part of fourteen worlds, Who is the ultimate basis of the three worlds which are visible and not visible, And who is the lord of earth and the eternal goal thereof. 2

त्रैविष्टपरिपुवीरघ्नं क्षितिभारघ्नं भवरोगघ्नम्
कैवल्यं नवनीताहारमनाहारं भुवनाहारम् ।
वैमल्यस्फुटचेतोवृत्तिविशेषाभासमनाभासम्
शैवं केवलशांतं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥३॥

Trivishta paripuveeragnam, kshithi bharagnam, bhava rogagnam,
Kaivalyam nava neethaa haara manaahaaram bhuvanaharam,
Vaimalya sphuta chetho vruthi viseshabhaasa manabhasam,
Saivam kevala santham, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 3

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who killed the valorous enemies of devas, reduced the burden of earth, Who cures the sorrow caused by the day today life, Who is ever detached, who eats butter, who eats no food, who eats the earth, Who shines in the mind when it is clear but cannot be revealed by anything else, And who is peaceful, is peace and nothing else but peace. 3

गोपालं प्रभुलीलाविग्रहगोपालं कुलगोपालम्  
गोपीखेलनगोवर्धनधृतिलीलालालितगोपालम् ।
गोभिर्निगदित गोविंदस्फुतनामानं बहुनामानम्  
गोपीगोचरपथिकं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥४॥

Gopalam Leela vigraha gopalam Kula gopalam,
Gopi khelana govardhana dhruthi leela laalitha gopalam,
Gopir nigaditha govinda sphuta naamaanam bahu namananam,
Gopi gochara dhooram, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 4

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who looks after all beings in his playful form of cowherd, Who protects those who look after cows, who playfully lifted,The govardhana where gopis play and made gopa lads happy,
Whose name Govinda is clearly by the cows*, who has many names, And who always is beyond the reach of the ignorant**.
* The word could be translated as words also.
** The word could be translated as Gopis. 4

गोपीमंडलगोष्ठिभेदं भेदावस्थमभेदाभम्  
शश्वद्गोखुरनिर्घूतोद्धतधूलीधूसरसौभाग्यम्  ।
श्रद्धाभक्तिगृहीतानंदमचिन्त्यं चिंतितसद्भावम्  
चिंतामणिमहिमानं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥५॥

Gopi mandala goshtee bedham, bhedavastha bhedhabham,
Saswath gokhura nirdhathothkrutha dhooli sara soubhagyam,
Sradha bhakthi grahithananda chinthyam chinthida sadhbhavam,
Chinthamani mahimanam, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 5

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who is present in each and every group of gopis, who appears, In differing forms but actually is without difference. Whose pretty form is covered by the dust raised by the hooves of cows, Who is realized by attention and devotion in thought, who is beyond thought, And whose greatness is determined by the gem of individual’s thought. 5

स्नानव्याकुलयोशिद्वस्त्रमुपादायागमुपारूढम्
व्यदित्संतिरथ दिग्वस्त्रा ह्युपुदातुमुपाकर्षंतम् ।
निर्धूतद्वयशोकविमोहं बुद्धं बुद्धेरंतस्थम्  
सत्तामात्रशरीरं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥६॥

Snana kula yoshid vasthra mupadhayaga muparoodam,
Vyadhitsantheeradha digvasthradhy upadathu mupakarshantham,
Nirdhootha dhwaya soka vimoham budham budheranthastham,
Saththa mathra sareeram, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 6

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who climbed the tree along with cloths of women taking bath in the pond,Who wanted those who want their cloths back, to come close to the tree in the nude*, Who destroyed sorrow and passion, who is wise, who is at the end of wisdom, And who has a body that did not get disturbed by the senses. 6
* Come leaving everything 

कांतं कारणकारणमादिमनादिं कालमनाभासम्  
कालिंदीगतकालियशिरसि मुहुर्नृत्यंतं नृत्यंतम्  ।
कालं कालकलातीतं कलिताशेषं कलिदोषघ्नम्  
कालत्रयगतिहेतुं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥७॥

Kantham karana makarana adhi manadhim, kala manabhasam,
Kalindi gatha kaliya sirasi muhur nruthyantham sunruthyantham,
Kalam kalamanatheetham kalithasesham kalidoshagyam,
Kala thraya gatha hethum, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 7

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who is pretty, cause of causes, primeval, without beginning and a form of time, Who danced again and again on the head of serpent Kaliya in the river Yamuna, Who is black in colour, ever present in time and destroys the evil effects of Kali, And who is the cause of the march of time from the past to the future. 7

वृंदावनभुवि वृंदारकगणवृन्दाराध्यं वंदेऽहम्  
कुंदाभामलमंदस्मेरसुधानंदं सुहृदानंदम्  ।
वंद्याशेषमहामुनिमानसवंद्यानंदपदद्वंद्वम्  
वंद्याशेषगुणाब्धिं प्रणमत गोविंदं परमानंदम् ॥८॥

Vrundavana bhuvi vrundharaka gana vrundharadhitha vandeham,
Kundhabamala mandasmera sudhanandam suhrud anandam,
Vandhya sesha maha muni manasa vandhyananda pada dwandwam,
Vandhya sesha gunabdheem, pranamatha govindam paramanandham. 8

I salute that Govinda who is the extreme limit of happiness, Who in the land of Brindavan is being worshipped by crowd of worshipful devas, Whose nectar like smile is as pretty as jasmine flower, who gives happiness to his friends, Whose twin feet are worshipped by the heart of great and worshipful sages, And who is the sea of good qualities which are worshipped by all. 8

गोविंदाष्टकमेतदधीते गोविंदार्पितचेता यो  
गोविंदाच्युत माधव विष्णो गोकुलनायक कृष्णेति  ।
गोविंदाङ्घ्रिसरोजध्यानसुधाजलधौतसमस्ताघो  
गोविंदं परमानंदामृतमंतःस्थं स तमभ्येति ॥९॥

Govindashtakamethad adheeta govindarpitha chethayo,
Govindachyutha madhava vishno, gokula nayaka krushnethi,
Govindangri saroja dhyana sudha jala dhoutha samasthago,
Govindam paramanandam amruthamathastham sa samabhyethi. 9

He who dedicates his mind to govinda by chanting the holy names, Govinda, Achyutha, Madhava, Vishnu, Lord of Gokula and Krishna, And reads this octet on Govinda, will get drenched by the nectar of meditation, Get washed away from all his sins, reach the blissful world of govinda, And attain the nectar like supreme bliss. 9

तजि छल कपट और चतुराई । पूजहिं विविध भांति मनलाई ।।

और हाल मैं कहौं बुझाई । जो यह पाठ करै मन लाई ।।

ताको कोई कष्ट न होई । मन इच्छित पावै फल सोई ।।

त्राहि त्राहि जय दुःख निवारिणि । त्रिविध ताप भव बंधन हारिणी ।।

जो चालीसा पढ़ै पढ़ावै । ध्यान लगाकर सुनै सुनावै ।।

ताकौ कोई न रोग सतावै । पुत्र आदि धन सम्पत्ति पावै ।।

पुत्रहीन अरु संपति हीना । अन्ध बधिर कोढ़ी अति दीना ।।

विप्र बोलाय कै पाठ करावै । शंका दिल में कभी न लावै ।।

पाठ करावै दिन चालीसा । ता पर कृपा करैं गौरीसा ।।

सुख सम्पत्ति बहुत सी पावै । कमी नहीं काहू की आवै ।।

बारह मास करै जो पूजा । तेहि सम धन्य और नहिं दूजा ।।

प्रतिदिन पाठ करै मन माही । उन सम कोइ जग में कहुं नाहीं ।।

बहुविधि क्या मैं करौं बड़ाई । लेय परीक्षा ध्यान लगाई ।।

करि विश्वास करै व्रत नेमा । होय सिद्घ उपजै उर प्रेमा ।।

जय जय जय लक्ष्मी भवानी । सब में व्यापित हो गुण खानी ।।

तुम्हरो तेज प्रबल जग माहीं । तुम सम कोउ दयालु कहुं नाहिं ।।

मोहि अनाथ की सुधि अब लीजै । संकट काटि भक्ति मोहि दीजै ।।

भूल चूक करि क्षमा हमारी । दर्शन दजै दशा निहारी ।।

बिन दर्शन व्याकुल अधिकारी । तुमहि अछत दुःख सहते भारी ।।

नहिं मोहिं ज्ञान बुद्घि है तन में । सब जानत हो अपने मन में ।।

रुप चतुर्भुज करके धारण । कष्ट मोर अब करहु निवारण ।।

केहि प्रकार मैं करौं बड़ाई । ज्ञान बुद्घि मोहि नहिं अधिकाई ।।
